Artist
Loren Bartnicke
oil and acrylic
About
Loren Bartnicke is an artist using both acrylic and oil paint to make highly textured, sculptural paintings. The raised impasto paint creates peaks and valleys on the paintings’ surface, catching light and shadows and causing the paintings to shift from every angle. Change and challenging our own perceptions are themes in Bartnicke’s work. Her use of color and texture create winding paths throughout the surface that simulate movement. The changing nature of the paintings depending on light and positioning means they cannot be fully understood from one perspective. This invites the viewer to investigate further. In the search for understanding there may be a discovery of something unexpected within the paintings.
Loren Bartnicke grew up in Little Rock, AR and received her BFA from Mississippi State University. She completed her MFA in Painting at Syracuse University in May 2017. While in New York, Bartnicke painted sets for theatre productions and taught undergraduate courses in drawing and painting. Bartnicke has been a member of the Art Group Gallery since 2014.
